Real Spring 2007 Purchase Order

Target budget is $1400. Remember, we got real donations and we didn't request any last semester.

  • 5 x 500GB SATA disks ($160 ea) = $800
  • Assorted stuff = $200
    • Permanent Markers
    • 3 non-bit screwdrivers, Phillips and standard
    • Sempron (or other Socket A CPU) ~ $40
    • 1GB Registered ECC SDRAM, PC100 ~ $140
    • GFTi4200 fan [here] ~$7
    • Dryer Ducting?
  • Display stuff
    • [This] is beautiful.
      • -vs: only 1280x1024 and very pricey?
    • [This] is pretty hot too...so two of them would be awesomer.

Machine plan based on purchase

  • Manticore: 3x 500GB for /home, 1 TB available
  • Astrolabe: 2x 500GB, 5x 280GB for /scratch (~1.1TB) and rest for /mirrors (~700GB)
  • Current centaur hardware + Sempron : Idle machine
  • Current guu + 1GB RAM : New (reliable) centaur

Old notes

Oops, this page is misnamed. It's instead about all purchasing this go-around, grouped by source. We only (typically?) request money from the SAC once per semester, hence the original name.

Proposed

SAC

  • permanent markers for CDs
  • 3x non-bit screwdriver Philips (we have the electric; why bother?) (because there are some things the electric won't work for, e.g. things which require a long thin neck)
  • 3x non-bit screwdriver flathead (we have the electric; why bother?) (because there are some things the electric won't work for, e.g. things which require a long thin neck)
  • Fix Vera
  • taniwha replacement?
    • Irrelevant, AMD64 from vs.

This is all GRO now but oh well

GRO

  • disks? do we want to do that GRO backup thing? Should we just jam them on manticore? Should we just make a screencast for J-Share?
  • do they actually care about us? Let's ask them for stuff before SAC and fall-back to SAC if we really need the things.
  • 500 gig 7200.10 disks for astrolabe!?
    • Yes.

Bloomberg

  • 2 x 100 CD-Rs
    • We need blank CDs to build the bootable system image for the contest computers, both for testing and for production use.
  • For a non-working Athlon system we could get going, Sempron 1.83GHz, $40
  • For guu, 1 GB ECC, $145
    • The computers during the contest need a file server to store people's work. We need RAM and a CPU to make a computer we already have into a usable server.
  • ask them in email for spare LCD(s!?)
    • Look in officers archives for Asheesh's request?

From CS

  • They don't much like to give us money, so let's avoid asking probably.
    • But Dr. Scott claimed that CS would buy us things as long as we didn't ask too often...so we should look into something reasonable and do it?
